Jean Marie Kommer Hamilton passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at University of Chicago Medical Center. She was born in August of 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Winfield Kommer and Helen Barnay Katsuleus. She was married 53 years to Chester Bruce Hamilton, who preceded her in death in February of 2000.

She worked for years as a secretary to help put her husband through college to become an optometrist and eventually became a stay at home mother, raising 6 children. They moved frequently during their marriage, living in Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Wisconsin, California and eventually back to Illinois. They lived in Lombard and Bloomingdale but eventually moved to Glendale Hts.

Jean was instrumental in the founding of the Bloomingdale Public Library, beginning as a volunteer and later becoming a staff member. At her first retirement she was the longest serving staff member, and finally at the age of 88 years, she retired for the second and final time.

She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles on the computer. Even at her age, she enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends via email.

She is survived by her 6 children, Nancy (Fred) Krauss, Rebecca (John) Friis, Bruce (Rhonda) Hamilton, Keith (Virginia DePaul) Hamilton, Ian (Kathyanne) Hamilton, Elizabeth (Steve) Hajek, 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd, Mt. Prospect, IL, 60056, 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2016.

The Memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Friedrich Funeral Home.

Interment will be separate.
